    A Matcha Sifter (or sieve) - a fine-mesh tool used to break up clumps in matcha powder before whisking, ensuring a smooth, lump-free beverage. 

  • The Matcha Sifter is an essential piece of equipment in the traditional preparation of matcha green tea. It is a very fine-meshed sieve made of stainless steel, that is designed to rest securely over the chawan (matcha bowl). Its crucial function is to de-clump the matcha powder before hot water is added. Due to its extremely fine texture and electrostatic charge, matcha powder naturally forms tiny clumps when stored. By gently pushing the measured powder through the fine mesh these clumps are broken up. Sifting creates a light, airy powder that dissolves easily in water, which is necessary to achieve the characteristic smooth, velvety texture and beautiful layer of foam when whisked with a bamboo whisk (chasen). It is a simple step that is vital for a superior, non-grainy matcha experience.
