• TOKONAME TEAPOT WITH KILN-FIRED COLOR GRADIENT

This is a traditional Tokoname ceramic teapot featuring a classic rear handle (ushirode) and a unique, deep, hand-carved texture that creates a beautiful transition between dark clay and light terracotta colors. Its spacious, rounded body and integrated strainer are designed for the efficient steeping of a larger quantity of tea leaves.

  • This piece embodies a time-honored Tokoname style featuring the rear handle (ushirode), setting it apart from the typical side-handled Kyusu. The core of the design lies in the material: it is crafted from the region's famous iron-rich clay, whose unique composition is often credited with subtly mellowing the flavor profile of the infused tea. The outer surface is enhanced with a dense, scored relief pattern, evoking a woven texture or carved wood grain, giving the teapot a rugged, tactile quality. The color scheme is dynamic, featuring a dark, near-black finish on the top portion that transitions organically into the warm, kiln-marked terracotta at the base—a spontaneous effect of the firing process. Its rounded, generous form is perfectly suited for brewing larger volumes, ensuring ample space for tea leaves to fully unfurl and release their essence. The placement of the handle at the back provides stability and ergonomic control when pouring hot water. This is a robust and visually striking vessel built for daily use.
